Arrive by Aeroexpress

Use the official airport bus when its current timetable and city terminus fit the arrival.

Heydar Aliyev International Airport identifies Aeroexpress boarding at both terminals and service toward the 28 May railway and metro area. Follow terminal signs, obtain the accepted travel product from authorised equipment, and verify the next departure only after landing. A delayed flight can make an older screenshot useless.

The city stop is an interchange, not a door-to-door transfer. Measure the onward walk with luggage and identify the correct metro entrance before leaving the transport area. If the last segment is impractical, choose an authorised alternative instead of accepting an unsolicited approach.

  • Follow signed airport directions.
  • Plan the last kilometre before boarding.
02

Read metro destinations

Check the displayed terminus because central Red and Green operations are not completely separate.

Baku Metro explains the shared movement pattern around 28 May and publishes the relationships among Red, Green and Purple services. Study its current network diagram before the first journey. On the platform, match both route colour and train destination to the planned station.

Deep platforms and escalator time make some very short rides slower than surface walking. When uncertain, ask uniformed staff rather than boarding a train that merely appears to head toward the centre. Allow extra minutes at unfamiliar interchanges.

  • Match colour with destination.
  • Allow time below ground.
03

Transfer to Icherisheher walking

Use the metro to reach the Old City area, then explore within the walls on foot.

Icherisheher is a named station on the central system. After exiting, orient to the fortifications and enter through a recognised gate rather than following random turn prompts. Stone lanes, gradients and residents' access make wheeled luggage unsuitable for a sightseeing loop.

Link the Maiden Tower and Palace of the Shirvanshahs at walking speed, pausing for interpretation and keeping doorways clear. Return to the same station only if it remains the simplest exit; another edge of the quarter may put the next central stop closer.

  • Leave large bags at accommodation.
  • Keep residential paths open.
04

Bridge districts selectively

Use underground travel for meaningful gaps and preserve walking for each chosen neighbourhood.

A sensible central route can join the walled city to part of the boulevard on foot, then use Baku Metro for a farther district such as Narimanov. Repeated station descents for adjacent places consume energy without revealing more of the city. Compare actual street distance with the operator map.

For any surface bus segment, use current information from the responsible provider rather than inferring service from an old map pin. Cross major roads at designated points and end the day near a known return connection. One missed vehicle is easier to manage within a compact district plan.

  • Reserve metro rides for larger gaps.
  • Finish beside a dependable connection.
05

Handle payment and the return

Confirm accepted products and full-route operation before an evening journey or flight transfer.

The airport describes BakuCard availability for Aeroexpress and public transport, while Baku Metro maintains its own fare guidance. Products and prices can change, so buy through authorised machines and retain the card or travel proof until the ride is finished.

Save the accommodation address and essential directions offline because connectivity may weaken below ground. Before a late return, verify every necessary leg rather than only the first departure. A flight journey deserves a substantial buffer and an authorised fallback if public service no longer fits.

  • Use authorised payment equipment.
  • Verify the complete route home.
